TREKKING IN PERU
Enjoy the most beautiful and, in many cases, least known sights in the Peruvian Andes, walking along ancient Inca trails in what was once the core part of the great Andean empire. Some of these trails are still paved with stone blocks, and one can observe ruins of villages, shrines and fortresses as well as ancient traveler shelters, silent stone witnesses of an exciting past. The Ausangate, Vilcabamba, and the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash are high altitude treks with spectacular mountain scenery.
Best known in the world is the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. There are some alternative routes to reach the spectacular Inca citadel, for instance taking the paths around the Salkantay mountain. Other trekking tours around Cusco are to the Choquequirao Inca citadel, to the Lares valleys and to the rough snow covered Ausangate range. It's common to see Condors flying around here and herds of llamas, alpacas and graceful Vicuñas abound in the mountain valleys and passes.
In the north of the country see spectacular breathtaking mountain scenery, tropical glaciers and emerald green lakes and high mountain forests along different trails starting from Huaraz or from Chiquian, coming close to internationally known Mts. Huascaran, Alpamayo and many others in the Cordillera Blanca, or breathkaing vertical Jerupaja, Jirishanca, Siula and many other rock and ice giants around the Huayhuash range. Some high mountain trekking routes require experience and good physical condition
Service includes tents, all meals, porters or cargo animals (donkeys, horses, mules or llamas), bilingual tour guides and specially trained personnel, as well as transportation to and from trail head.
