PERUVIAN WALKING HORSE (CABALLO DE PASO PERUANO) TOURS

Lima - Horses

The Peruvian walking horse has its origins over four centuries ago in South America. Horses brought to Peru by the conquerors and subsequent Spanish settlers were bred selectively to produce a horse with a natural four-beat footfall of medium speed that provides a ride of incomparable smoothness and harmony of movement. This distintive movement of the Peruvian Horse originated the dance of the Marinera, the most traditional Peruvian folkloric dance.

The programs are designed for horse lovers interested in learning about the traditional Peruvian Walking Horse and basic riding experience is required. The Peruvian Walking Horse´s unique features are described as participants prepare their horses for the ride with the help of local ´Chalanes´, the persons in charge of the care and training of the Peruvian Walking Horse. The Walking Horse (Peruvian Caballo de Paso) has “the best smooth ride imaginable”, according to specialists.

Peru - Horseback riding

All tours take place in the valley of Chilca, located at only 45 minutes south of Lima, by car. Chilca is a place filled with history where the ancient Chilca-man was known for settling in this region more than 9.000 years ago. The different routes take participants through olive plantations and cotton fields, along the Pacific Ocean beaches, as well as into ancient ruins and colonial constructions.

Peruvian walking horse tours are also available in areas like Trujillo and Chiclayo in North-Peru.

For horse lovers or persons interested in learning about the Peruvian Walking Horse but who are not riders or who do not feel like riding, we offer demonstration tours. On the demonstration tours, participants will be introduced to this breed of horses in the comfort of a small horse ranch located only 25 minutes south of Lima, by car.

The demonstration tour shows participants the history and features of the Peruvian Walking Horse and also provides with a life comparison between the Peruvian Walking Horse and race or jump horses.

Participants will be shown how the Peruvian Walking Horse is cared for and how it is traditionally prepared before ´chalanes´ (experts in the care and handling of Peruvian Walking Horse) go riding.

There will also be a demonstration of the typical Peruvian dance ´Marinera´ performed by a Peruvian Walking Horse and a lunch buffet with typical Peruvian dishes and drinks will be served.
