LA OROYA AND TARMA
Only 195 km. away from Lima along the quite spectacular Central Andean highway, La Oroya is a mining city of 30,000 inhabitants located at 3750 meters above sea level in the Peruvian Andes.
It is also 57 km. or 45 minutes away from the small town of Tarma, set in some of the most beautiful mountains in central Peru, and is known as “La Perla de los Andes” (the Pearl of the Andes). At 3.053 meters above sea level,Tarma itself could be described as pleasant; although the city was founded in 1538, little remains of its colonial past. Known as the city of flowers, is celebrated for its attractive countryside and excellent climate.
However, the area is not only mountainous. It is also the gate to tropical jungle valleys with splendid countryside like Chanchamayo, where the cities of San Ramon and La Merced are located, and the valleys of Oxapampa and Pozuzo, with Austrian – German heritage.
LA OROYA GOLF CLUB
The highest 18 hole golf course in the world is in Peru. It is situated in La Oroya, 12,375 ft. a.s.l. (3,750 m.) three hours east of Lima, by car, in the central Andes. Originally built by the Cerro de Pasco Corporation to entertain its foreign mining engineers and visitors back in the 1940's, it continues as an active course and is open to the public. With the thin air at this altitude, even you would exceed Tiger Woods' best drives, for sure. They originally named it Club El Soroche, which means, “high altitude sickness”.
La Oroya golf club welcomes all golf visitors who want to play in their challenging 9 hole golf course, not only due to the altitude...
