ANDEAN ORIGINS was created by a team of well-known specialists in the tourism field, all with recognized backgrounds. Here is a short description of who they are:
Mario Canessa
Born in Lima, since 1978 Mario Canessa has been known in the international market as an experienced Adventure Travel operator in South America. As an economist who graduated in Zurich, Switzerland, he is fluent in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, with good Quechua knowledge. He has founded and directed the adventure travel department of Hirca in Peru, later moving to Argentina (1989) and creating and directing Kallpa Tour Operator for 16 years. Together with Jose in the sixties, they climbed several mountains in the Andes. Now they have created Andean Origins. Mario is Andean Origins General Manager, using his vast experience to provide your clients with the best personalized service.
Jose Guzman
José is a native of Peru. He is fluent in Spanish and English and is knowledgeable about the local customs and old Inca traditions of the Andes; he has been guiding adventure and cultural tours since 1979 when his career in tourism began. Jose lives between Vail, Colorado and Cusco, Peru where he resides now most of the time. Jose is also a successful business person. He has owned and operated for 16 years successful Import/wholesale and Retail businesses in the USA.
After selling his interest on both businesses he decided to retake his love and interest for the tourism industry by way of creating/partnering Andean Origins, Casa San Blas Boutique Hotel, and soon to open for the 2007 season, Sacsayhuaman Boutique Lodge. He is also the owner and founder of Planet Earth Explorations, dedicated to adventure travel worldwide. José Guzmán is proud to be the CFO of Andean Origins, a travel company dedicated and committed to provide your clients with safe, reliable, unique, and personalized service.
Carmen Canessa
In 1978, together with Mario, she founded and was in charge of the operations department of Hirca in Peru, later moving to Argentina (1989) and creating, again with Mario, Kallpa Tour Operator. She climbed several mountains in the Andes with Mario and Jose in the sixties, and now she is part of Andean Origins, directing the operations department. With her vast experience she guarantees the best possible operation for your clients.
Nora Arque
Nora is Cuzco native, where she was born in 1984. She is fluent in English and has advanced studies in French. For more then a year she has worked for Carmen Canessa in the Operations Department, always receiving excellent reports from the passengers she assisted. She has also done an advanced quotations course for developing tailor-made tours and has a quite extensive knowledge of Peru's main highlights and services. Norita, as we call her, is responsible for the operations coordination.
Carlos Araya
Carlos was born in Lima and received his Bachelor's Degree in tourism. He lived and worked in Tambopata for two years before coming to Cusco, where he has lived since 2004. Carlos is our Marketing Coordinator.
Joslyn Erickson
Born and raised in Portland, OR, Joslyn got her BA in Spanish before moving to Peru in 2005. She has traveled extensively throughout the country and has experienced the richness of the Peruvian culture. Joslyn works in our Reservations Department.
